Year 9 Impress With Their Words For Work.

This term, our Words For Work group of Year 9 students made a great impression when they visited the offices of British Land.

30 students are taking part in a project to develop their formal writing and speaking skills. As part of this, they stepped forward for the potentially daunting task of making a formal presentation to British Land's professional business team.

All the students did a brilliant job, and they were rewarded with the gift of a book of their choice. A special shout-out goes to Year 9's Noah who showed great resilience: Noah overcame his early apprehension to give it a go – then did a FANTASTIC presentation about fare evasion on railways.

Visit leaders Ms Lawrence, Ms Stevens and Ms Boateng say, ‘We very proud of ALL our students, and so pleased to hear from the British Land team that Haverstock's young people were the BEST participants out of ALL the participating schools.’

Student Nailah Begum says, ‘Words For Work helped me to feel more confident when speaking to people I don't know. When I gave my speech I got good advice and feedback, which will help me next time. I enjoyed the tour and hearing about the different things that people do in their jobs.’

Student Danny Ahmed adds, ‘It has made a significant impact for me because it helps me engage in learning. We are mostly using words which can help you gain more confidence, and the trip made me really excited.’

And student Lana El-Ali says, ‘Words For Work has made an impact on me by helping me become more brave and confident in going up and reading things on stage and in front of people. It helped me understand more about books and speeches and other amazing things. It was a really fun experience and i would love to do this again.‘

‘I can honestly say this is the best group of students I have gone on a trip with. They were phenomenal!’
