World Book Day Bonanza!

Posted on: 8th Mar 2024

Haverstock students know that literacy is the key to learning, and we all love anything that encourages our young people to pick up a good book!

World Book Day is a great initiative that was established by UNESCO in 1995. All around the world, children and young adults take part in this annual celebration of books and reading. In the UK, it always falls on the first Thursday in March.

Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day 2024 with an amazing day of reading-related fun, quizzes, games and costumes. In lessons, teachers read stories to our students and talked about the books that changed their life. In the Library, students took part in quizzes to show off their book knowledge and creative writing skills, and shared their own favourite books with each other. And in our WBD-themed Escape Room challenge, students cracked puzzles and codes to unlock a mystery.

A highlight of the day was spotting our staff dressed as their favourite literary characters – with expert judging from a brilliant panel of Year 12 students: Sarina Ahmed, Ozlem Bati, Sakina Adlani, Emma Mulvey, Halima-Sadia Muhammad and Ragada Mashood.

Happy World Book Day everyone!
