The English Department is a successful and dynamic one that consistently produces good results.

Situated on the first floor of the new building the team occupy 11 classrooms, four of which have computer suites. The department is extremely well resourced and new class readers are bought regularly to make learning relevant and fun.

The team is a very well established, versatile and stable one. There are detailed curriculum maps and schemes of work that are being refreshed and reviewed for all of the courses that are delivered at KS3 and KS4 in light of recent changes to the National Curriculum and assessment at KS4.

ll students are prepared for GCSE English Language and Literature (AQA Exam Board).  The department also offers A Level English Literature and A Level English language, which are very popular.

The department makes good use of the library and supports Year 7 and 8 lessons with the Accelerated Reader programme in lesson time once a fortnight.  Lessons are often supported by staff from the EMAS and the SEN departments and a range of extra curricular activities to extend the curriculum are organised each year. There are book clubs, comic writing club, debating club and one of the highlights in 2016 was a group of Yr8 and 9 students who competed in the Slambassadors Project and 2 performed at the Arts Theatre in the West End.
