Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at Haverstock School has experienced rapid expansion due to the strength of the package that we offer. We are able to offer you opportunities to grow intellectually, socially and personally through programmes that include academic, vocational and enrichment activities.
Our sixth form has a committed and experienced tutor team as well as highly qualified and supportive teaching staff. You will have the opportunity to choose from a particularly wide range of courses and subjects as well as a growing choice of both extra-curricular and enrichment activities. We have Specialist Schools Status as a Business and Enterprise college and a member of the Career Academies UK, specialising in the area of financial services and business. As we are the only Full Service Extended School in Camden, we are also able to offer you the chance to develop your personal and work-based skills through a variety of enterprise programmes within the school. This is a reflection of our commitment to developing you as a well-rounded and active citizen alongside your academic progress. Our ethos is based on inclusion, community and responsibility.
We believe that positivity and challenge are the keys to achievement and progression.
The Haverstock Sixth Form is committed to offering a supportive and progression focussed pastoral system. We aim to provide a friendly learning environment that meets individual needs. From the moment you join us, you will be given the support, advice and guidance that you need to succeed. You will be a part of a tutor group with a personal tutor to work with you, helping you to plan your goals and meet your learning targets.
All students follow a 6-weekly review cycle which enables short term progression targets to be set and continual attainment to be achieved.
Alongside the tutor team, we have a full time sixth form learning mentor and a full time Connexions personal adviser. Both work with students in a variety of ways with the aim of providing support that best fits student’s particular needs.
We also provide students with careers advice from specialist careers advisers and a UCAS support programme. This involves university visits and additional support from university students and recent graduates.
All students will take part in 3 PSHE focus days a year. Subjects covered are based on self-esteem, success psychology, first aid, leadership activities, sexual health, drug and alcohol education and enterprise skills

Our enrichment programme offers an excellent opportunity for you to get involved in activities away from your studies. The activities are varied and range from the purely recreational to those based on citizenship and community work.
We offer sixth form sport and PE sessions, the CSLA qualification, music and choir, games clubs that range from computer based sessions to chess, supervision of activities run for KS3 students including lunch club and training sessions for sport ( football / basketball), dance workshops, Envision environmental action group, sixth form student council and a primary school link programme . The Duke of Edinburgh award is offered to sixth formers as GCSE Japanese.
As part of our work with the Career Academies UK, we provide a programme of Guru Lectures to all sixth formers. This was launched by Tim Campbell, the first Alan Sugar Apprentice.
We also provide work experience opportunities and run study visits. These visits can take place in London, nationally or abroad. In 2007 for example 40 students went to New York and all of our business studies students visited a variety of businesses in London. Our Health and Social Care students all undertook placements in primary schools and our Leisure and Tourism students completed a study of West Ham United football club, attending an FA cup game. The AS geographers take part in a field trip in Wales and the language students can do work experience abroad.
To reflect our belief that it is important to help you to develop in all aspects, we encourage every member of the sixth form to contribute to the local community in some way.
Students are encouraged to develop their personal and social skills as well as their leadership and academic skills.
The schemes that we offer are varied and include peer mentoring, paired reading, running lunchtime clubs, supervising the school cafeteria, corridor monitoring, playground duty, homework support, senior citizens New Year party, community Christmas hampers and primary school sport assistants.
There are also a number of sixth form committees that are run by and for the post-16 community.
