Keeping Your Child Safe

At Haverstock we are unequivocally committed to ensuring that all students are safe, happy and secure whilst in our care. Through clear procedures and practice we are duty-bound to promote the welfare of students, and we expect all staff and volunteers to wholeheartedly share this commitment.

We have a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and clear processes in place. Every member of staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must always ensure that they are aware of these procedures.

Haverstock School's Safeguarding Team

• Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mr Denis Dineen (Associate Assistant Headteacher)

• Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead: Ms Amelia Burnell

• Designated Safeguarding Governor: Ms Alison Kelly

Our safeguarding team can be contacted on safeguarding@haverstock.camden.sch.uk

Our Safeguarding Procedures

Our safeguarding procedures are created to ensure that every student feels safe at school and all are free from harm. We undertake regular training and continuous development in safeguarding processes and procedures, to help promote our culture of safeguarding amongst all staff and volunteers.

Our safeguarding policy encompasses themes including Child protection; Behaviour; Attendance; Children missing from care or education; Bullying and cyber-bullying and the misuse of social media; Radicalisation & Extremism; Gang culture; Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE); Female Genital Mutilation (FGM); Racial & Homophobic discrimination; Peer on Peer Abuse.

You can download our full Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy on the link at the base of this page.

If You Have A Safeguarding Concern

For parents:

If you have any safeguarding concerns or would like to raise any questions, your first contact should be your child's Tutor or Head of Year. If you still have questions or issues to discuss, you are also welcome to contact our school's Safeguarding Leads Denis Dineen and Amelia Burnell by emailing safeguarding@haverstock.camden.sch.uk

For students:

For any safeguarding concerns or questions, we recommend a child‘s first contact should be their Tutor or Head of Year. We teach our students:

• They can also speak to any trusted adult in school. The adult will refer to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy if there is a concern about the safety of the child.

• In most instances the parent / guardian will be informed unless it is deemed the child may be brought to harm or more risk by doing so.

• Students (and anyone else) can also report something which is bothering them without leaving their name, using ‘My Voice’ on the link here. There is more information about this lower down the page on on our Staying Safe page (in the Parents section of our site)

* We teach pupils about safeguarding issues, including how to respond to concerns, in lessons on personal, social, health and PSHE lessons.

For staff:

If you have any safeguarding concerns about a child you must report it immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 999.

Other ways you can report any concerns:

• My Voice for anonymous reporting

If you've seen something which is bothering you, you can send an anonymous report using ‘My Voice’ on the link here. My Voice is an anonymous reporting platform for any students, staff or families to use, to write a report without leaving your name. An example could be that you've seen something you want to tell us about, you may know someone who is being bullied or you are worried about a friend's wellbeing, or you may be experiencing or witnessing violence that you want to report. Remember we can only help if we know who needs help; you don't have to leave your name but you must let us know who we need to help.

• Anyone can call the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000

They will then pass the concern onto the local child protection team who will investigate it.

• Concerns can be reported directly to your local authority child protection team on 020 7974 3317 (out of hours: 020 7974 4444)

• The NSPCC offer free advice and support to anyone who’s concerned about how child protection issues are handled in an organisation. You can call the NSPCC’s Whistleblowing advice line on 0800 028 0285 or email them on help@nspcc.org.uk.
