Year 11 Geography Fieldwork - Exploring Stratford’s Regeneration

On Friday our year 11 geography students took a trip to Stratford to partake in their human geography fieldwork as a part of their GCSE. The students visited Stratford to understand the impact the Olympics has had on the area causing its regeneration. We took a tour of the easy village looking at the accommodation the athletes stayed in and the great amenities that were located nearby. They then completed a field sketch of the area looking at the different types of infrastructure that had been made for the Olympics. After their field sketch the students created a questionnaire where they had to ask members of the public their viewpoints on the area and whether the regeneration of Stratford was a good or bad thing.

Following on from the amazing work completed by all the students in the east village we then took a walk around the olympic park before ending up at Carpenters estate. The focus of going to Carpenters was to give the students a different viewpoint towards the gentrification of Stratford. Showing that it wasn’t positive for everyone. Whilst walking around the carpenter's estate the effect of the area was visible on the students in understanding that unfortunately places like this exist and are being left behind.
