Black History Month launched last week at Haverstock with an assembly focusing on this year’s theme: Honouring Our Communities.
We explored the lives and contributions of significant Black figures connected to Camden’s recent history, including Paul Boateng, Beryl Gilroy and Soul II Soul.
The assembly celebrated their achievements, the barriers they challenged, and the lasting impact they have had on their communities and beyond. Students were also encouraged to reflect on an important question: “What can you give back to your community?”
This prompted students to consider how they can make a positive difference in their own communities through their actions, choices and contributions. We hope the assembly inspired our students to recognise the importance of celebrating Black history, learning from the achievements of others, and understanding the role each of us can play in creating a more inclusive and supportive society.
