Year 11 Parent Information Evening

Year 11 is a hugely important year in a young person’s school journey. It is a year of hard work and high expectations, but also one full of opportunity. The habits students build over the coming months, such as attending every day, completing homework, revising regularly and asking for help when they need it, can make a real difference to the choices available to them when they leave Haverstock.

One of the most important of those habits is excellent attendance. In Year 11, every day really does matter. Students are working through the final parts of their GCSE courses, preparing for mock examinations, completing assessed work and beginning increasingly focused revision. Missing even a small number of days can mean missing important teaching that is difficult to recreate at home. Being in school, on time and ready to learn gives students the best possible chance of keeping up, feeling confident and achieving the outcomes they are capable of.

We know that Year 11 can sometimes feel daunting for students and their families. There will be busy periods and moments when the pressure of GCSEs feels very real. This is when the partnership between school and home becomes particularly important. Parents and carers play a huge role in encouraging excellent attendance, establishing good routines at home, supporting revision and helping young people remain focused on the bigger picture.

That is why we are really looking forward to welcoming our Year 11 parents and carers to our GCSE Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 23 September at 5.00pm.

During the evening, we will talk about what lies ahead for Year 11 and, importantly, how we can work together to help every student achieve their very best. We will discuss attendance and expectations, alongside practical advice on supporting English, Maths and Science, revision and homework, wellbeing in the run-up to the exams, and the Sixth Form admissions process.

GCSE results matter. They help determine the courses, qualifications and pathways available to students after Year 11 and can have a lasting impact on their future choices. Our ambition is for every Haverstock student to leave Year 11 with results that reflect what they are capable of and that keep as many doors open as possible.

Getting there will take commitment throughout the year. Excellent attendance, hard work, good routines and making the most of the support available in school will all matter. Just as importantly, it will take a strong partnership between students, families and school.

We hope as many of our Year 11 families as possible will join us on Wednesday 23 September at 5.00pm. Year 11 is a team effort, and we are looking forward to working with you throughout this important year.
