Our Year 12 Biologists have been diving deep into the importance of biodiversity in our ecosystems. Building on their knowledge from Years 9 and 11, students recently took their learning outside the classroom to carry out hands-on fieldwork, calculating Simpson’s Index of Diversity.
Students were fascinated by the variety of plant species found in Primrose Hill, ultimately concluding that areas with longer grass were significantly more biodiverse.
Student Spotlight: "We used a random number generator to obtain our coordinates and then set up our quadrats to count the species present. Honestly, it was really fun getting out of the classroom and doing some proper fieldwork!" — [Yasiira. H], Year 12
This practical was a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their scientific knowledge to real-life environments. Well done to all our Year 12 biologists for their excellent fieldwork!
